The ELIOT (ELectromagnetic processes In Oriented crysTals) project, coordinated by INFN Ferrara and in which the INFN Legnaro Laboratories and INFN Milan Bicocca participate, aims to study the increase in Bremsstrahlung radiation emitted by ultra-relativistic electrons and positrons in oriented crystals. This effect can be exploited in the realization of new generation gamma ray sources and new ultra-compact detectors for particle physics and astrophysics. The Ferrara Section is responsible for the realization and characterization of the crystals that are tested at the accelerators of MAMI and DESY in Germany.
